Actor Purna Bikram Shah, also known as Paul Shah, had been charged with raping a minor but was given a clean chit by the Pokhara High Court. Supporters of Paul Shah gathered in Damauli upon hearing the news of his release. The security arrangements have been tightened due to the large crowd.

 

The case originated when a 17-year-old minor filed a complaint with the District Police Office, Tanahun, accusing Shah of rape during a shooting. Shah surrendered on February 27, 2022. Initially, the minor stated that it was rape, but later changed her statement. The District Court of Tanahun acquitted Shah, while the Nawalpur District Court ordered imprisonment, fines, and compensation to the victim. However, the joint bench of Judges Dilliraj Acharya and Sridhara Kumari Pudasaini acquitted Shah, citing insufficient evidence.

 

Previously, the Nawalpur District Court had acquitted Shah of the minor rape charge but sentenced him to imprisonment and fines for child abuse. An appeal was filed by both the District Public Prosecutor's Office and Shah's side in the Pokhara High Court. The court, based on the appeal, acquitted Shah, stating that the prosecution's claim was not sufficient. Following the court's decision, Paul Shah was released from Tanahun District Jail on February 27.
